What’s New in Fortnite Rocket Racing Season 1?

In Chapter 5, something big happened in Fortnite. The main game is split into many. Now, Battle Royale is just part of a larger world. We’ve now got Fortnite Festival, Lego, and Rocket Racing. The final strand is about to get bigger, with the launch of Fortnite Rocket Racing Season 1. Or, Neon Rush.

Since it launched, we’ve known Rocket Racing was going to break away from the end and start dates for Fortnite seasons in Battle Royale. It was in Season Zero, but that’s just wrapped up. We’ve now got Fortnite Neon Rush, or Season 1 of Rocket Racing. It’s a major upgrade that’s bringing huge new features to the mode. This is how it works.

New Tracks

The key component of the new season so far seems to be the new tracks. Epic has published five new tracks themed around the season. These all aim to sum up the Neon City behind the current batch of Fortnite racing content. Although, with enough boosts to get that “rush” bit in too. These are the five new tracks:

  • Jackrabbit (Novice)
  • Tri-City (Silver 1)
  • Conduit (Platinum I)
  • Delirium (Diamond I)
  • Slap Happy (Gold 1)

Creative Comes to Rocket Racing

One new feature that’s been all over Fortnite leaks lately is creative coming to other modes. We’ve seen it rolled out for Fortnite Lego, but now Rocket Racing is getting in on it too.

A dedicated UEFN editor is now available for Rocket Racing. We’ll soon have tons of user-created tracks and experiences to play around with. All with the unique racing quirks of Fortnite.

Your Rank

The main way to play Rocket Racing is Ranked. This is where the decent Daily quests are, and where you can actually get a sense of progress. A rank reset has taken place with the launch of Fortnite Rocket Racing Season 1.

No matter which rank, you were in, you’ve likely dropped down a bit. It’ll depend on where in the Fortnite ranking system you reached originally. Those who just got to Bronze will stay really low. If you hit Unreal, you’ll be higher.

Quest Rewards and New Cosmetics

Along with the new tracks, there are a new patch of rewards for playing through Ranked Racing. As you climb up the ranks and complete quests, you’ll unlock new cosmetics. These are limited to Rocket Racing though; you won’t be unlocking any Battle Royale Fortnite skins.

A new pack is launching alongside Neon Rush. This one does contain a full Fortnite skin, but also a good number of racing-based cosmetics too.

Is This a Full Season?

One curious area of Epic’s update on Rocket Racing was clarification that this isn’t Season 1! Epic is instead choosing to not force Racing into Seasonal models. It’ll just get batches of content like this whenever it gets them. That’s definitely a nice change of pace compared to the rest of the game right now. Completionists currently have multiple seasons to keep track of, so keeping racing a bit more casual isn’t the worst move.
