Honkai Star Rail Tier List: Who Should You Focus On?

Before we start our Honkai Star Rail Tier List, we want you to keep one thing in mind. The purpose of creating this list is to be used as a guide, which is intended to help players choose the best Honkai SR characters for their teams and objectives.

However, these are not definitive or official decisions about which is the best character in the game. The character’s performance can vary depending on the level of the team, the strategy, the upgrades and the objective of the players.

Furthermore, it is also important to keep in mind the fact that your favorite character may not be in the position you want. This is most likely due to external reasons of the different categories that are taken into consideration when ranking.

That said, let’s start with the tier list of Honkai star characters, the different categories of the characters and what we base our rankings on.

The character categories

In Honkai Star Rail, characters can be classified in several ways, the two main ones being according to their powers and according to their paths/paths.

Power Classification

Powers are quite simple. There are seven types of them: Physical, Fire, Ice, Lightning, Wind, Quantum and Imaginary.

Each of these types determines the attacks and elements that each character controls. While some only develop one power, others, called hybrid or adaptive, can handle two or more at the same time.

Path Classification

Paths are the second form of classification to take into account.

When we talk about paths in Honkai star rail we refer to the 7 main routes that the character can follow. These are Destruction, Harmony, Nihility, Hunting, Erudition, Preservation and Abundance.

Advantages/Disadvantages

Each category has its advantages and disadvantages that affect the Honkai Star Rail tier list, as well as its mechanics and playstyle:

• Destruction: Characters in this path are characterized by having high attack power and a great ability to inflict damage on enemies, as well as often being attuned to ice powers. A clear example of this is Misha.
• Harmony: In this path, they specialize in support and defence, both for themselves and their allies. Their elemental affinity is wind, ice or fire and some examples include Bronya and Asta.
• Nihility: This specializes in the control and manipulation of enemies. They have their affinity in the elements quantum, wind and lightning as seen in characters like Blackswan or Silverwolf.
• Hunting: In this path, they excel in mobility, agility, and performing combos and quick attacks. Clear examples of this path are Dr Ratio, with the imaginary element, or Topaz and Numby, with the fire element.
• Erudition: Characters rely on knowledge and intelligence, as well as the use of technological devices and weapons. Examples of Erudition characters are Argenti, Himeko, and Serval.
• Abundance: Characters of this path rely on creativity and imagination, as well as the summoning and use of items and pets. They tend to have more affinity with quantum and lightning powers. Examples include Lynx and Bailu.
• Preservation: Those on the “Preservation” track focus on patience and defensive behavior. Characters in this area tend to have the element of ice as seen with Gepard and March 7.

Also, in these lanes, you can find different roles, such as damage dealer, DPS, or support characters that are based on dealing as much damage as possible to their opponents or assisting their teammates with healing or distracting enemies respectively.

What we base this tier on

Having explained the categories and roles of each character we can begin to summarise the criteria that were taken into account when compiling this tier list. These were:

• The roles and categories you belong to.
• The versatility and usefulness of the characters in different situations and game modes.
• The opinion and experience of the Honkai: Star Rail player community.
• The potential and actual damage they can inflict on enemies, both individually and collectively.
• The utility and benefit they can provide to allies.
• The compatibility with other characters in their category or in general.
• The ease and efficiency with which they can activate and maintain their abilities, both passive and active.
• The availability and accessibility they have to obtain and upgrade their weapons and traits.

It is also important to note that the following list can be affected by features such as new upgrades, the world in which the game is played and the skill of the player. Therefore, keep an eye out for any changes and try out even the D-level characters, who knows, maybe you can use them and turn them into S-level characters.

Explaining tiers

Tiers are the categories we use classify characters according to their performance and usefulness in the game. Levels range from S to D, with S being the highest and D the lowest.

Below, we explain the meaning and criteria for each level.

• S – the best of the best.
• A – an excellent character that has minimal flaws or disadvantages.
• B – a good character with certain disadvantages or flaws that prevent him from standing out.
• C – a character with good points in his favour, but with many others to improve.
• D – while there is no denying some of the character’s pros, overall it is somewhat disappointing.
